Conveying elements of peace and acceptance are key intentions of Katrina’s art making practice. She enjoys capturing the stillness of the moment, the play of light on a single point in time. 

Painting a variety of subject matter, with a focus on landscape and still life, Katrina predominantly uses water mixable oils. Regardless of subject, capturing light through subtle changes in tone is an important focus in her work. Inspired by early Australian Tonalists, Katrina aims to achieve a balance of softness and structure through her own style of tonal realism.

Katrina’s understanding of the importance of creativity for self expression is further reinforced by her experience as an art therapist and occupational therapist in the youth mental health sector. This emotionally challenging work taught her the fine balance of expressing difficult themes of both darks and lights and the transformative power of being present as witness to the work.
