Artist statement
In my meanderings around the earth I travel a slow path, following intuition, and seeking to learn from the wisdom of the land. On these travels I make sketches or photographs as prompts for what has inspired. Reworking these memories later in the studio I aim to convey a felt sense of that restorative moment in time.
I relate to the metaphor of light as a guide, a giver of insight and delight. Capturing the magic of light, through subtle changes in tone and a balance of softness and structure, is an important focus in my work. I am particularly drawn to atmospheric weather conditions, which are often reminiscent of the human condition. I enjoy exploring the parallel between human emotions and dilemmas and the natural environment. In this exploration I am interested in how the environment intersects with our emotional and spiritual well-being.
I acknowledge that I live and paint on Cammeraygal and Ngurra Country and I honour the strength and intergenerational resilience of the traditional owners, elders, past, present and emerging who are custodians of this land, sea, sky and waterways.
